JDPC Nsukka supported her Beneficiaries to establish Home Gardens

In order to promote self-sufficiency and to alleviate the burden of food purchase so as to concentrate available income on other pressing necessities, JDPC Nsukka carried out the home gardening intervention to support food security through distribution of garden tools and improved seedlings such as, ugu, spinach, pepper, tomatoes, okra, etc to caregivers and parents. Beneficiaries received education on home gardening as such; one of the most straightforward economic benefits of home gardens is the reduction of household food expenditures.

They were made to know that they did not need to purchase any fruits or vegetables. Even when they were unable to produce enough to sell in the marketplace, they should be satisfied with the yields that their respective home gardens produce, as the funds saved on food could be spent on other household expenses. However, the households selling surplus produce and developing capacities to process and preserve crops that are unable to be immediately consumed can handle post-harvests spoilage.
